Wonderwerp December Edition: Anne Wellmer Dossier
Nonlinear Slowly Growing Audio Construction
In this historic edition of Wonderwerp, German-Dutch composer, performer, and sound artist Anne Wellmer demonstrated her groundbreaking electroacoustic work exploring feedback loops, radio interference, and slowly evolving sonic ecosystems.
Wellmer's work at Studio LOOS utilized a custom SuperCollider patch interfacing with analog tube oscillators, ambient microphones, and multi-channel speaker diffusion. The performance was characterized by long, delicate time arcs wherein microscopic fluctuations in electrical current and room humidity modulated the harmonic beating between tuned audio oscillators.
Rather than enforcing rigid musical tempos, Anne Wellmer's aesthetic principles treat the performance room as a non-linear resonator. Her compositions leverage room modes, acoustic reflection coefficients, and feedback thresholds to allow sound structures to grow organically over time.
